Spore… A game that has been in devolopement for a VERY long time, and has been HIGHLY anticipated, has now become the most pirated game ever recorded.  Why?  Is it because of it’s popularity? The reviews?No.. It’s because of EA’s draconic DRM scheme.  You see, you can buy the game from EA, but, you can only install it 3 times. I know… Most of you are probably saying “So?”, well, there are many, like myself, that change hardware and software often.  Hell, some people change their motherboards more than they change their socks.

Why is this a big deal?  Well, everytime you switch a major piece of hardware, you have to re-install Windows (if that’s the OS you use).  Which means, after you swap a hard drive, or your mobo 3 times, you are screwed…  You have to call EA, wait in line to get a rep, then convince them that you have a legit reason for having to install the software again…  I, personally, think this is BS.  I mean, why treat me like a criminal if I decide to BUY your software instead of downloding it?  I mean, seriously…  Whiskey Tango Foxtrot…

Of course, there has been some backlash.  Reviews on Amazon are HORRIBLE because of it, and many news groups are reporting about it.  Dont’ believe me?  Do a quick google search and you will see…  I just hope this is not how the gaming industry is going to go about things from now on.  The record industry learned about DRM the hard way, and, if the gaming industry doesn’t start to listen, they are just as doomed.  So, please EA, stop the madness… I beg you to…
